How to fix the Work Offline error in Outlook

Issue

Outlook for Windows is not sending or receiving emails and it says Working Offline in the bottom right corner or has a red X on the Outlook icon:

Resolution

  1. Click on Send/Receive in the menu along the top
  2. Click on Work Offline in the preferences section:


     
  3. Make sure it shows Connected to: Microsoft Exchange in the bottom right corner of the program:
